Reflection For The Week

What is Stewardship?

Stewardship simply means “taking care of something owned by someone else”. Genesis 1:28 God has graciously given stewardship of all His into our hands. It is our responsibility to care for these gifts on behalf of God, their owner.

1 Chronicles 29:14 King David prayed “Who am I, and what are my people, that we should be able to make this free will offering? For all things come from you and of your own have we given You” 1 Chronicles 29: 11–15.

According to the O.T a person gives to God one tenth of his income, perhaps this is a model we should adopt. The giving is directed at God.

The New Testament 2 Corinthians 8&9 are chapters dealing specifically with giving. The word Grace is used a number of times – referring to God’s free and undeserved giving. Receiving grace brings out the grace in us; and this is evidenced in our giving. Giving comes when God unlocks hearts.
