Reflection For The Week

All Christians are called saints, a holy people, set apart by virtue of their baptism and dedication to God, even when Christians don’t act necessarily ‘saintly’, as we can see when St Paul writes to his young Churches.

But from very early times certain Christians have been singled out for honoured remembrance as having shown a conspicuous obedience to God in their life and in their death. Their fellow Christian have delighted to honour such people with the special title of ‘Saint’, and believe that of all who ‘die in in the Lord’, they certainly have a special place in the presence of God.

On All Saints’ Day we pay honour to these heroes of the Church, known and unknown, honour them as notable members of our Christian family, united through our living fellowship in Christ.

On this day, the remembrance of the saints’ victory over evil recalls to our minds the resurrection victory of Christ himself which is manifested in the lives and deaths of his saints.
