Reflection For The Week

Possessions exercise a big hold over the human heart. But when we are preoccupied with material possessions we forget the more important things in life. Jesus said our main concern should be to ‘ make ourselves rich in sight of God’

A certain amount money & material possessions are necessary if we are to live up to our dignity as human beings and children of God. Christ was aware of this. His parable is not then about need. It is about greed pure and simple. The man in the story was rich to begin with, but he still wasn’t satisfied. Greed is like a fire- the more wood you pile on it, the hungrier it gets. For the greedy person there is no such thing as enough.

Often in life we don’t know what we want or what is truly important. Let us therefore pray for the gift of wisdom that we may get our priorities in tune with those of the Gospel.
